seedling pots

To date, pots for seedlings are presented in a very wide range, allowing you to choose the right vessel for any type of plant. All of them are divided into 2 types: disposable and reusable.

Disposable pots include seedling pots made from materials such as pressed peat, paper, and thin cellophane. Reusable analogues are mainly made from clay and plastic.

Technological containers come in different sizes from 200 ml to 10 liters, making it easy to find the right option for any crop.

Peat pots – made of pressed peat, light and comfortable, moreover, they do not injure the root system of the plant during growth and during transplantation, since the walls of such vessels are easily destroyed. The only drawback is that the walls pass air well, which leads to the rapid drying of the soil and the seedlings have to be watered several times a day.

Paper jars – made of paper impregnated with paraffin. Lightweight and easy to transplant plants. Hold moisture well.

Cellophane – such products are shaped like small bags with a hole in the bottom, which, when filled with a substrate, take the form of a pot. The cheapest and simplest type of vessels. It retains moisture well, but practically does not allow the root system to breathe, which is poorly tolerated by many types of plants.

Clay pots are the best container for seedlings. They have high strength and good thermal insulation, allow moisture and air to pass through, allowing the root system of developing plants to breathe. The main advantage of growing seedlings in clay vessels is to obtain healthy and strong plants that tolerate transplantation well and easily adapt to new conditions.

But such products have a number of disadvantages. Since clay is a porous material, very often the root system fuses with the walls of the vessel, which leads to root injuries during transplantation. Clay pots for seedlings are too heavy, expensive, take up a lot of storage space and require specific care, which consists in mandatory cleaning and disinfection after plant transplantation, as well as storage in a dry place that prevents the appearance of fungus and mold on the clay surface.

Plastic pots are the most common and popular type of products due to their durability, ease of care and storage, a variety of shapes and sizes that allow you to choose a vessel for any plant. The shape is round, square, rectangular and oval.

Cassette-type pots or cassettes are a construction consisting of an even number of cells for square, less commonly round pots with drainage holes . The number of containers in the cassette can vary from 6 to 100 or more pieces. This design is very convenient, compact and stable, and the presence of a cellular pallet provides ventilation for the root system of plants.
