Professional flower growers and amateurs have a general rule for selecting pots for growing violets, taking into account the specifics of the culture: the diameter of the rosette of the plant should be related in a 3: 1 ratio with the diameter of the upper part of the vessel. The small size and squat pots for violets were chosen because the roots of this culture do not grow deep, and in order for the violet to develop well and bloom profusely for a long time, its root system must braid the entire internal space of the vessel and therefore the violet does not bloom for a long time in a too wide and high pot . The size of the pot must necessarily correspond to the type and size of the violet, and each individual must be in a separate vessel.

Mostly plastic or clay pots are used for growing violets 5, 7 and 9 cm in diameter, but if the plant is very large, then you can take a vessel and more than 10 cm. As a rule, the height of the pot matches its diameter. The size of the vessel must necessarily correspond to the type and size of the violet. Young violets should be kept in the smallest pots, and after 3-6 months they should be transferred to a medium-sized vessel, up to 7 cm in diameter. Flowers with large rosettes can be planted in wide, not high containers – trays or bowls. Individuals with large fringed leaves and long petioles will feel great in bowls and trays, and miniature varieties of violets should be grown in pots with a diameter of no more than 3-4 cm.

Clay pots for violets – from 5 to 15 cm in diameter with a bottom drainage hole. Their advantages over plastic products are that they are moisture and breathable, and therefore the root system of plants rots and gets sick much less often. But they are not durable, much more expensive than plastic products, they require thorough cleaning, soaking and boiling in water after each use. Also, the disadvantages of clay products include a large weight, which limits their use on glass shelves and racks, and the clay surface contributes to the rapid drying of the earthen mixture in the vessel, which makes it necessary to water the plants more often.

Plastic pots for violets (saintpaulia) – come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors, they are much easier and more convenient to care for than clay ones, but in most models of plastic products it is necessary to make additional drainage holes. It is best to choose product models with raised areas at the bottom to ensure good air circulation, which is vital for the root system. Violets grown in such pots get sick less often, bloom more profusely and are much stronger than individuals grown in vessels with a flat bottom.

Disposable Violets Pots – Made from pressed peat moss or paper for growing young plants and seedlings. This design is very convenient, since over time the walls of the pot collapse (after 1.5-2 months) and at the time of transplantation, the risk of damaging the root system is eliminated – you just need to place the plant in a hard, larger vessel and add a little substrate.
