Description: These hardy flowers were first found in the wild in central Europe and Asia. They belong to the aster family. They grow vertically and can reach a height of about 60 cm (although very tall specimens have been found, more than one meter high), and grow to a width of more than 90 cm. The name of the plant was borrowed from the Greek language. Some botanists believed that this flower was able to attract various garden birds, such as hummingbirds, but, unfortunately, this is not the case. The plant is able to tolerate cold winters down to -30°C. At the beginning of the twentieth century, beautiful telekia, or as it is sometimes called beautiful telekia, was brought to Finland, where many new varieties were bred. To date, in this country, the flower has remained in many old gardens.

Flowering: Outwardly, the flowers are somewhat similar to daisies. They have a yellow hue with thin, widely spaced petals surrounding a dark yellow center. They grow singly on top of strong, leafy stems throughout the summer. The flowers are about 9 cm in diameter. The flowering period falls on July-August.

Soil Type: The soil should always be moist and well-drained. Make sure the pH is 6-8. Loams are best.

Watering: after planting should be regular. When the telekia is formed, it will not require much water. You can water the flower with rainwater, but be careful as it can contain harmful acids.

Fertilizers: In order for the telekia to grow well, top dressing should be applied, which contains nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium. The ratio should be 3:2:3 respectively.

Reproduction: carried out by planting seeds. Harvest the seeds in late summer, as soon as they dry. Keep them in a dry, dark place until next spring. Prepare a garden bed and make sure the soil temperature is at least 20°C. Loosen the soil to at least a depth of 10 cm. Be sure to water the soil to keep it moist. Telekia seeds need to be planted at a shallow depth of about 2-3 cm, and the distance between future plants should be large enough, so keep a spacing of 60 cm when planting. When the seeds are planted, the soil must be watered as soon as it dries. Wait for the appearance of shoots in 4-8 days. After the roots appear, you should carefully monitor the level of soil moisture. During this period, regular watering is of great importance. Increase watering by 2 cm every 5 days.

If you decide to grow the plant by planting seeds indoors, then you need to choose a bright place, and the temperature should be at the level of 21-23 ° C. Seeds will germinate in 2-3 weeks. You can also reproduce flowers by dividing in the fall.

Pests: Usually no diseases or harmful insects affect this flower. But pay attention that there are no slugs and snails.

Application: Telekia is excellent for planting in gardens in borders and among the mass of flowering plants.

Additionally: telekiy should be protected from the negative effects of strong winds.
