Selection of ornamental plants for the home

Do you want to replenish your house with “green inhabitants” – ornamental plants? What to choose? They are divided into four groups. Let’s take a look at them.

Groups of ornamental plants

The first group is ornamental plants, with beautiful large or small leaves. They do not bloom, their beauty is in large leaves and stems, which are themselves an ornament. Plants with large leaves include: monstera, begonia, dracaena. With small beautiful leaves – asparagus, nephrolepis fern, ficus Benjamin. There are plants with variegated leaves in this group: croton, coleus, royal begonia. With bright stripes, spots, with a colored middle – tradescantia, dieffenbachia, aglaonema, chlorophytum. Of all the variety of decorative flowers, these are the most unpretentious indoor plants. For a home garden, ornamental plants can be used as a background for ornamental flowering plants. But they are also very effective.

The second group is decorative flowering plants. They will transform your home, adding color to the compositions of ornamental plants, making them more interesting. Violets – with a riot and a variety of colors will decorate not only the indoor garden, but also any window sill or niche in the house. These are plants with small flowers: Kalanchoe, heliotrope, jasmine, the same violets, and with large and even huge flowers, for example, strelitzia with an inflorescence of 15 cm or a giant slipway, in which a flower is the size of a plate. They bloom at different times of the year: in summer – hibiscus and bluebell; in spring – spathiphyllum and anthurium; in winter – Kalanchoe and pink jasmine. Decorative flowering plants – a flowering house all year round.

Decorative flowering plants are divided into flowering potted plants – this is the third group. Unlike decorative flowering houseplants, potted plants can only briefly settle in the living room, kitchen or hallway. They are short-lived, quickly fade, fade and fade. Most of these plants are thrown away, some are left until next year, transferring them to a cool room or garden, some are stored as bulbs. Therefore, before buying a profusely flowering plant, check whether it belongs to decorative flowering indoor or decorative flowering potted plants. Popular – hyacinth, chrysanthemum, azalea, gloxinia. They are used as gifts, decorating the house with cheerful droplets of multi-colored paints.

The fourth group is cacti. The most unusual, of the whole variety of indoor plants. Many people think that the cactus is a completely unpretentious plant. They don’t need to be cared for because they grow in the desert and tolerate hot, dry weather very well. This is not true. They do not like the abundance of sand and can destroy cacti, and the sultry summer heat sends them into hibernation. For good development and constant flowering, they just need winter temperature. And in summer, cacti prefer open fresh air to stuffy rooms. Cacti are a heterogeneous and rather extensive family; in nature, they include small dwarfs and huge columns. With all the variety of cacti, they have one thing in common – they are leafless, covered with thorns or hairs. Cacti are divided into two groups – cacti growing in deserts and growing in the tropics.

With all the variety of indoor plants, you still need to choose – what is right for you. Do you want a green jungle at home, or blooming gardens, or maybe a little desert. Making a choice is simple: look at your interior, what will fit into it better from the proposed. Do you have enough space for large leafy plants or should you start small. The choice is yours. In any case, the desire to acquire ornamental plants is the beauty and “lungs” of your home.
