Genus Phalaenopsis (Phalaenopsis) belongs to the Orchid family. Under natural conditions, plants live in the humid lowland and mountain forests of Southeast Asia, Northeast Australia, and the Philippines. The name of the genus comes from the Greek words phalania (“night moth”) and opsis (“resemblance”): the flowers resemble butterflies.
Phalaenopsis is an epiphytic plant, with a very short stem and a rosette of three to five two-row arranged large fleshy leaves. At home, many types of phalaenopsis are cultivated, differing in the color of the inflorescences, the size of the leaves and the shape of the petals.
