Its grains give a person a valuable oil used in the treatment of many diseases. The plant is also used in cooking – its leaves are added to hot dishes and salads. How to germinate decorative amaranth at home

For most gardeners, growing amaranth at home does not cause any difficulties. The process of growing this plant begins with sowing seeds, from which seedlings will subsequently grow .

The seeds of decorative amaranth are very small in size, so they are mixed with dry sand before sowing. It is necessary to sow seeds in prepared soil to a depth that does not exceed 1.5 cm. The best time to sow seeds for seedlings is mid-March.

How to grow amaranth at home and enjoy the lush flowering of plants in the ground? It is necessary to provide seedlings with favorable conditions. The most comfortable seeds feel at a temperature of 20-22ºС. In addition to a comfortable temperature, it is important to provide them with good lighting and sufficient soil moisture.

Under favorable conditions, after 3-6 days, the seeds will please the first shoots. To speed up the emergence of seedlings, you can pre-soak the seeds, which will help them hatch.

In order for the seedlings to grow strong and not stretch out, you need to thin them out, removing weak sprouts and then substitute one or the other side to the window.

If the lighting is not enough (cloudy or rainy day), you need to illuminate the plants with a fluorescent lamp.

After the remaining sprouts have 3 true leaves, they are dived into separate pots 5×5 cm in size, in order to subsequently be planted in the ground. Plants planted in the ground quickly and well take root, begin to grow and soon bloom.

Knowing how to germinate amaranth at home, you can get strong healthy sprouts that will take root perfectly in open ground.

If desired, low-growing plant varieties can be grown as indoor amaranth in an ordinary flower pot.

Such cultivation will keep it until late autumn. However, new seedlings will need to be planted next year.

Home care for amaranth consists in timely spraying and watering seedlings, removing weeds if they appear and loosening the soil.

To grow amaranth from seeds at home, you can use universal soil. The most important thing is that the prepared soil mixture is loose enough, contains useful minerals and trace elements, and retains moisture well.

It is best to use soil prepared from equal parts of peat, soddy soil and humus. You can add mineral fertilizers , wood ash, superphosphate or nitrogen fertilizers to the soil in advance.

Before sowing amaranth seeds at home, the soil should be disinfected. This can be done with a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate. It will help kill pathogens in the soil.

The name of the plant sounds unusual, although many people know it visually, since its uncultivated counterpart – amaranth is found everywhere. It is exterminated by summer residents and gardeners as an annoying weed. The plant is widely used to decorate flower beds and borders. At the same time, it looks equally good both in single and in group plantings. Also, tall plants are used for cutting to make bouquets , which can be dried and admired all winter.
