Ammobium (lat. Ammobium ) – a flowering member of the Compositae family, whose homeland is Australia. In hot climates, it is a perennial plant. In Russian latitudes, it is grown as an annual. Due to the characteristics of the inflorescence, the ammobium is called a dried flower, this flower is suitable for cutting and making dry bouquets. In addition, it can be used to revive the front garden and decorate garden paths.

Description

Ammobium is a herbaceous plant, reaching up to 1 m in height. It has straight strong rigid tetrahedral shoots branching in the upper part. Their surface is covered with a light pile. The structure of the stems is dense, uniform. This culture has stem and root leaves. In the lower part of the shoot, a leaf rosette is formed, consisting of oval, elongated, entire, alternate, smooth or slightly rough leaf plates up to 7 cm long, up to 2 cm wide, rich green in color. Stem leaves are petiolate, with a bluish tint, are smaller than the basal ones.

Inflorescences – baskets with a diameter of 2 – 2.5 cm. They consist of tubular bisexual flowers of a bright yellow color. The petals are white, short, triangular in shape, arranged in several tiers. In the evening, the inflorescences close. Flowering begins in July, ends in mid-autumn.

At the end of the growing season, fruits are formed on the plant – spherical, elongated achenes along the edges with many small dark brown seeds inside.

Ammobium is an unpretentious and rather interesting plant that can transform any part of the garden. The only moment that makes gardeners refuse to grow this crop is its thermophilicity.

However, as practice shows, it can be quite successfully bred on the site as an annual. Bright baskets delight the eye until the frost. With the onset of cold weather, the flower can be cut and used to make a dry bouquet.

What an ammobium flower looks like can be seen in the photo, which will help to present it in various compositions in a flower garden:
