Small flower: description of species, planting and care

HomeAll flowers that start with SSmall flower: description of species, planting and care

The name of the small-flowered flower speaks for itself – its petals are so miniature that they resemble small needles. The most common types of small-flowered are beautiful, alpine and orange. Their varieties differ in the height of the bush and the color of the inflorescences, but all of them are undemanding to the soil, photophilous and quite frost-resistant.

Cultivation of perennial small-scale

This is a perennial rhizome frost-resistant herbaceous plant, outwardly very similar to the perennial aster (September), but unlike it, it blooms from late May to August. The color of the flowers is bright blue with a yellow center. Plant up to 70 cm high, flowers up to 5 cm in diameter, in large corymbose inflorescences.

This plant reproduces by seeds and division of bushes. Can be propagated by green cuttings.

Before planting and caring for the small-scale bushes, the bushes must be divided. This is usually done in spring or autumn (late August – early September). Planting is carried out at a distance of 30 cm. Seeds are sown both in spring in boxes or ridges, and in autumn in the ground. Seedlings dive, in June they are planted in a permanent place with a distance between plants of 25-30 cm. Young grassy shoots are taken on cuttings.

The small-flowered plant loves a sunny place, but can also tolerate slight shading, and is frost-resistant. In partial shade, the stems must be tied up, flowering is less lush. It is undemanding to soils, responsive to fertilizing. When cut, it stays in water for a long time. Transplanted in spring or early autumn. It can grow in one place, maintaining a high decorative effect, for at least 5 years.

In culture, several types of small-flowered are common, which are divided into many subspecies and varieties.

The small-flowered beautiful forms large bushes 70-90 cm high. The leaves are large, lanceolate-elongated, dark green in color and stem sessile, small, elongated.

As you can see in the photo, the beautiful small-scale flower has flower baskets up to 5-6 cm in diameter, single or collected in loose corymbs.

The flowering of the beautiful small-flowered plant begins in July and lasts continuously until September – until the first autumn frosts. The beautiful small-flower can boast a large selection of little-known varieties that are distinguished by their bright color, size and high doubleness of flowers.

You will find photos and descriptions of the most popular species of small-sized petals below.

“Violetta” – reed flowers are dark purple, double;
