Below are the rules for planting and caring for growing Siberian irises – you will learn how to plant plants and how they can be used in garden landscaping.

Planting seedlings

In order to start growing Siberian iris, you will need to purchase seedlings. It is best to buy them in specialized nurseries that are responsible for the quality of plants.

When buying seedlings carefully inspect. They should not show signs of damage, rot, signs of disease. All parts must be strong, elastic. It is also important to pay attention to the cut. It should be smooth, without traces of mold.

Planting seedlings on the site should be carried out in early spring or in mid-autumn. In order for the flower to actively form buds, to please the eye with lush bright foliage, it is necessary to choose illuminated places for it in the garden. This crop grows well on loose, nutritious, slightly acidic soil.

Before planting, the site needs to be dug up, mineral fertilizer and organics are applied, planting pits are formed, the seedlings are carefully placed in them, spreading the root system. The root neck should be deepened no more than 4-5 cm.

The division of the bush

If there is a perennial, overgrown bush of Siberian iris on the site, you can divide it into parts and thus get several strong seedlings. To do this, the plant is dug out of the ground, the entire above-ground part is cut off, with the help of a sharp knife the rhizome is divided into equal parts.

Each division must have at least two processes. Places of cuts are sprinkled with charcoal to prevent the occurrence of fungus.

For divisions, a suitable plot in the garden is determined. Having chosen a place, they make small depressions in the soil, where the seedlings are placed, covered with fertile soil, and the area around the plants is rammed. After planting, the delenki are immediately watered abundantly.

Care

Siberian iris cannot be attributed to the whimsical plants of the garden, on the contrary, it requires minimal care, which should consist in timely watering, fertilizing and periodic pruning. Gardeners who do not neglect the rules for breeding this crop get a long and lush flowering plant.

  • Watering. Siberian iris belongs to moisture-loving crops, so it can be planted near water bodies. Water the flower should be frequent and plentiful throughout the growing season. The soil must always be moist. However, do not overdo it with water procedures, so as not to provoke the development of root rot and other fungal diseases.
  • Topdressing. From the second year of life, the flower is fed with mineral fertilizers. In early spring, after the snow melts, the first top dressing is applied, then the soil is re-enriched during the budding period. The third mineral supplement is applied at the height of flowering. This approach allows you to get a beautiful bush with a large number of inflorescences. It is also recommended from time to time to saturate the substrate with organic matter, combining this work with watering, so as not to burn the roots of the plant.
  • Pruning. After the bush has completely faded, it will need to be pruned. During this work, wilted buds with seed pods are removed. This procedure will keep the plant looking neat and prevent the appearance of excess growth. In late October – early November, the entire above-ground part of the bush is cut off so that young shoots can develop freely in spring.
  • Preparing for the winter. The plant begins to prepare for the cold season a couple of weeks before the onset of frost. As already noted, its aerial part is cut off, after which it is mulched using humus, sawdust or spruce branches for this.
  • Fight against diseases and pests. If the rules of irrigation are not observed and the Siberian iris is not fertilized, diseases such as gray rot, fusarium, and bacteriosis can affect. Affected bushes begin to wither, fade. Timely treatment with fungicides can reanimate them.

Among insect pests attacking a flower, aphids, snails, slugs, thrips, and nematodes are distinguished. To eliminate gastropods, a decoction of hot pepper is used, or they are collected by hand and destroyed. In the fight against other insects, the bushes are sprayed with karbofos and phosphamide.
