Indoor philodendron and his photo

Philodendrons – large climbing vines with a variety of spectacular leaves, are widely used in indoor floriculture , because, due to the variety of shapes and the ability to form a plant as you wish, they can be used in any interior. Philodendron indoor has a beautiful appearance. The name of the genus is due to the fact that in nature these creepers use trees as a support (phileo – “love” and dendron – “tree”). The genus unites about 300 species distributed in the tropical forests of South America, many of which are used in room culture.

We offer to see the philodendron in the photo

climbing philodendron

The climbing philodendron (Philodendron scandens) is one of the most common species of this genus. This is a perennial vine with long (up to 2 m), thin shoots climbing with adventitious roots, and dark green, leathery, heart-shaped leaves with a pointed apex.

Adventitious roots develop in the axil of each leaf and adhere to any moist surface, providing support and additional nutrition to the plant.

Philodendron blushing

Reddening philodendron ( Philodendron erubescens) is a non-branching liana with larger, than climbing philodendron, ovoid-thyroid-shaped leaves (leaf plate length up to 20 cm).

Young shoots and leaf petioles are reddish in color, becoming gray-green with age. The leaves also change color – red-brown young leaves gradually become dark green, only the edges retain a pink tint.

Philodendron care at home

Special care is required for philodendrons at home. Most philodendrons, as true inhabitants of tropical forests, are moisture-loving, need diffused lighting and warmth (the temperature in winter should not fall below +1 2 ° C). Watering during the period of active growth is plentiful, moderate in winter, regular spraying is desirable.

Young plants are transplanted after a year, adult specimens are rare, you can limit yourself to changing the top layer of soil. Philodendron vines need support. It is best to use a trellis or stick with coconut fiber or other material that can be moistened to allow the adventitious roots to cling to. Propagated by apical cuttings.

Cell sap has an irritating effect on the mucous membranes and skin. All work must be done with gloves! Do not use in children’s rooms!
