Dahlias are increasingly used as part of bouquets and compositions.

They are inferior to some other species in terms of durability when cut, but a wide range of colors, variety and clarity of inflorescence shapes allow you to create spectacular compositions and bouquets of dahlias for decorating residential premises, celebrations and exhibitions.

Below are photos of dahlia bouquets made for various special occasions.

Using dahlias for bouquets and arrangements

For bouquets, pompon, cactus, nymphaeum, spherical varieties with long strong peduncles are used. Cut flowers should be of medium size, fully open, with no wilted lower petals. Cut them in dry weather, early in the morning or in the evening, when the plants contain the most water. For a better flow of moisture into the stem, a cut is made over the internode with a sharp knife obliquely, and immediately immersed in water for the entire length of the peduncle. It is advisable to keep them in this form for several hours in a dark, cool place. To reduce evaporation, the leaves on the stem must be removed.

If transportation is necessary, cut flowers are placed in cardboard boxes with a bottom lined with wax or parchment paper, lightly sprinkled with water, in 2-3 rows, tightly, face up, tightly covered with paper on top, closed with a lid. Such flowers can be stored in a dark, cool place for up to 4-7 days. Before being placed in water, the transported plants are freely laid out on paper in a cool place, sprinkled with cold water, then placed in a wide bowl of water, and the cut obliquely is renewed with a sharp knife or secateurs. Flowers are first placed in a tall vessel, immersed in water up to the very inflorescence. After 1-2 hours, the water is drained to half.
