HomeAll flowers that start with AAlyssum rocky "Gold placer": growing from seeds

“Gold Placer” is one of the most beautiful varieties of rocky alyssum, which is often used in garden landscape design. This is a spectacular plant that can grow quickly and occupy large areas. Spherical bushes strewn with golden yellow flowers look amazing, attract the eyes of others, serve as a spectacular decoration of the flower garden.

Description

“Gold Placer” is a perennial variety of rocky alissum, which is a lush sprawling bush about 30 cm high. It has thin, long stems creeping along the ground. The leaves are small, narrow, bright green.

The flowers are rich yellow, consist of four heart-shaped petals, reach 1 cm in diameter. Collected in racemose inflorescences. This variety begins to bloom in early May. The bush is covered with numerous flowers until the end of June. In good conditions, the plant may re-bloom in the first half of autumn.

Cultivation

Growing alyssum rocky “Gold Placer” is carried out with the help of seeds that can be purchased at a flower shop, or, if it is already growing on the site, after flowering is completed, collect the seed. Sowing seeds in regions with a mild climate is immediately carried out in open ground before winter. In mid-latitudes, seedlings are grown first.

The soil for growing seedlings should be loose and nutritious. Sowing is carried out from March to April, depending on the region. It should be borne in mind that young plants will not tolerate night frosts. Therefore, planting seedlings in open ground should be planned for May – June, depending on the region.

For sowing, they take small boxes, lay a layer of drainage in the form of broken bricks or expanded clay on the bottom. Fertile soil is poured on top. The seed is placed so that a distance of 2 cm remains between each seed. The crops are covered with a layer of earth about 1 – 1.5 cm, watered with warm water, covered with a film.

Boxes with crops are kept in a dark room with a temperature of 20 – 25 degrees. Be sure to remove the shelter daily for a few hours to prevent mold formation. Sprouts will hatch in 7 to 10 days. After that, the film must be removed completely. When the second full leaf appears, the seedlings need to be thinned out. Landing on the site can be done after the establishment of stable warm weather and the disappearance of night frosts.

Care

After planting, it is important to regularly care for young plants. Alyssum of the Golden Placer variety should be watered as the earth dries up, as this flower is drought-resistant, but does not tolerate stagnant water in the soil. If the top layer has dried out by 4 – 5 cm, you can moisten the ground. For this culture, drip irrigation with warm settled water is suitable.

After completing the water procedures, the area near the bush must be loosened to allow oxygen to penetrate to the roots. Together with loosening, combine weeding.

If the soil on the site is fertile, it is enough to apply fertilizer once – after planting, using a mineral complex for flowering plants. Otherwise, with a lack of nutrients in the substrate, you will have to re-feed before flowering.

For abundant flowering and giving the plant a beautiful shape, the shoots are regularly shortened. The first time this work is carried out in March, eliminating dried stems and weak shoots. The second time – at the end of flowering, shortening the shoots by 6 – 7 cm. This procedure stimulates the re-formation of inflorescences.
