English and French lavender (with photo)

Gardeners prefer English lavender (narrow-leaved). This variety grows up to 80 cm in height and up to a meter in diameter of the bush.

Look at the photo – English lavender has narrow, elongated leaves, painted in a pale green-gray color.

The flowers, sitting on long peduncles, are most often purple, but there are also blue, white, pink. The plant has exceptional aromatic qualities.

French lavender (broad-leaved lavender) is distinguished by the amazing beauty of the shape of the flowers.

As you can see in the photo, French lavender inflorescences can be painted with all shades of purple.

The aroma of the French lavender flower is inferior to the aroma of the English lavender.

Lavender can be planted in the garden as single bushes or in borders along paths or hedges, but it is also good among other plants with bright green leaves, where the bushes will be an ornament, both during the flowering period, and silvery foliage after cutting the faded stems . It goes well with perennial herbs up to 50 cm high and border roses.

By periodically pruning the ends of the shoots, a more compact form and better flowering, and sometimes greater viability and durability, are achieved.

It is quite possible to grow lavender in tubs. The height of the plant is usually equal to the width.
