They are often used as plants grown against the background of the garden, they reach a height of more than 1 meter. These flowers are bushy and their stems are erect. Dwarf species are also known, the height of which is only 10 cm. Such varieties are grown in beds and containers.

Watering: The soil should be kept moist at all times. To keep the soil moist, you can mulch the soil. This approach will have a positive effect. These plants can survive in dry soil, but if the soil is too dry, the flower will die. When watering, it is desirable that water does not fall on the leaves. Remember that too much moisture encourages the development of powdery mildew.

Fertilization: Zinnia, which is not so difficult to grow, will grow well if you fertilize regularly (every 4-6 weeks). Also, as a fertilizer, you can add a large amount of compost to the soil.

Zinnia – sowing and soil preparation

  1. First you need to find a suitable place for growing flowers. The location should be sunny and the plants should be grown about one meter away from other vegetation. In this way, you will ensure sufficient ventilation and prevent the growth of powdery mildew. Zinnia, sowing it should be carried out in the middle or late autumn, from March to April.
  2. The planting site should be cleared of weeds.
  3. At the landing site, the soil should be dug up to a depth of 45 cm. If you find any debris, such as stones or sticks, then it should be removed from the ground.
  4. Scatter a 7-10 cm layer of leafy humus, compost, or well-rotted manure on top of the soil. To improve the soil well, use a shovel or rake.
  5. Use a rake to level the topsoil.
  6. Plant one or two zinnia seeds for every 15-20 cm. Seeds should be buried no more than 1-2 cm.
  7. Water the entire area with a sprayer, while not moving the seeds from the planting site. The bed should be kept moist at all times, but don’t water it too much. Seeds will begin to germinate in 7-10 days at 21-23°C.

Application: Zinnia, whose flowers are of decorative value, are mainly used for cutting.

Optional: trim wilted flowers or cut flowers for bouquets so they bloom more profusely.

Zinnia graceful (Zinnia elegans)

This variety is the most popular among the 20 species of this genus. Zinnia graceful reaches a height of about 75 cm, and its flowers are usually purple in color. Like other species, it does not require special care.
