Yucca – care

Lighting: The plant grows well in partial shade, but full sunlight is still preferable.

Soil Type: The soil should be dry and well-drained. The perennial can survive in poor soils, and it is desirable to keep the soil dry, as the roots of this plant rot easily in wet soil. The pH level should be between 5.5 and 7.5.

Watering: Yucca, which is not so difficult to care for, requires moderate watering, make sure that the soil is not too wet.

Reproduction: carried out by planting seeds. If you decide to reproduce the plant in the garden, then this should be done in the spring. Yucca – outdoor cultivation should be carried out in such a way that the distance between plants is from 45 to 150 cm. It all depends on the species that you plant.

When propagating indoors, the first shoots will appear within 1-12 months. It is best to sow the seeds at the end of winter. Yucca grown indoors germinates well at temperatures between 18 and 24°C. Seedlings need to be kept for about two years and only then transplanted into the garden. Yucca – Transplantation should be carried out in the spring, at a time when the night temperature does not fall below 7 ° C. You can also propagate a flower with the help of offspring or root cuttings.

Planting: After you dig the hole, examine the type of soil and add coarse gravel or sand to best prepare the soil in which the yucca will be grown. The dug hole should be twice as deep and wider than the root system of the flower. Place the extracted soil in a large container and add sand or gravel so that the final soil composition is half sand or gravel and half regular soil. It is highly recommended to add organic matter. When planting, make sure that the plant is planted exactly in the center. Plant carefully. After that, carefully compact the soil so that there are no air holes left in the soil. Pour in some water.

Growing in pots

Yucca garden, the care of which presents no particular difficulties, is also often grown in pots. In general, of course, it is better to plant them in the garden, but in large pots the yucca palm tree looks very impressive. So, for young specimens up to three years old, you need to use a container with a volume of three liters, and for older plants, it is advisable to pick up a pot with a volume of ten liters or more. The pot when growing indoors must be placed in a sunny place. Very often potted yucca has a dwarf growth.

Pests and Diseases: After a wet, warm winter, yellow-orange spots may appear where harmful bacteria develop. In addition, the flower is negatively affected by slugs and snails, and in order to get rid of them, it is necessary to use general purpose insecticides.

Additionally: many flower growers are wondering: why do yucca leaves turn yellow? The reasons for this may be the following: improper lighting, excessively hot content in the winter, as well as too abundant watering. The last reason is the most common, so pay special attention to this point.
