Plants in pots are not only a wonderful design element that complements any interior, they are also very healthy, as they help fight toxic substances that constantly accumulate in the room, which are released from detergents, finishing materials, furniture, etc. Potted flowers can improve the quality of air dried by bacteria and air conditioners. This is a great solution for people who are unable to plant a garden or flower bed due to lack of space or for another reason, and such a gift as a beautiful flower in a pot is always relevant, perfect for both a loved one and a work colleague.

Types of pots

There are already about three million domestic flowers and plants, and every year more and more new varieties appear that require certain conditions for maintenance, including pots. There are a great many varieties and types of flower pots on the modern market, which differ from each other in material, size, shape, color, purpose and various design features that allow you to provide comfortable conditions for keeping any plant.

Most pots are made of clay, ceramics and plastics, but there are also types of pots made of stone, wood, metal, pressed paper, and recently products made of transparent materials such as glass or polycarbonate have become popular everywhere.

Clay pots are made from white, yellow, red and fireclay clay, fired without it, followed by painting or without it. As a rule, with a ratio of height to diameter of 3:2, respectively. This form provides the plant with the necessary intensive gas exchange through the upper expanded part and contributes to better soaking of the soil with moisture during irrigation.

Clay products are simply necessary when growing almost all types of domestic plants, since clay is an environmentally friendly, waterproof material of natural origin, and its porosity allows air to pass through micropores, which allows the soil and root system to breathe oxygen – very important for the plant.

Before using a clay pot made by firing, it is recommended to immerse it in water for several hours, which will rid the product of salts and the presence of harmful elements that have impregnated the clay during firing.

Plastic pots are the most popular and demanded products today. They retain moisture much longer than clay products, but plastic contains toxic chemicals that have a negative, and in some cases (for plants with a too sensitive root system) even a detrimental effect on the plant.

Ceramic pots are beautiful, elegant products with a special decorative value. However, direct planting of sensitive plants is not allowed in them, as ceramic pots are covered with glaze, which makes it difficult for the plant to breathe. Basically, these pots are used in tandem with clay or plastic products, playing the role of a decorative element of the room.

The design feature of the products, which must be taken into account when planting plants, is also important. There are floor, hanging, indoor, street-type products and special-purpose pots – for sowing seeds and intermediate maintenance of developing seedlings.

Flower pots without a hole is another name for such a planter product. They are made mainly of plastic, and are used as a decorative element for clay pots or in places where water is not allowed to flow through a drainage hole. They usually have a round or rectangular shape. Direct planting is possible in them, subject to discreet precise watering and good drainage from expanded clay, gravel or brick chips. Otherwise, stagnant water will lead to damage to the root system by rot.

Flower pots with side holes are round or rectangular products made mainly of plastic. They are indispensable for tropical plants whose root system needs a lot of air and frequent watering. Such products, as a rule, are equipped with plugs that allow you to close the side holes during irrigation.

Flower pots with a watering system – there are two options for such systems: root watering and overhead irrigation. Both work on the same principle – as soon as the soil dries up, the sensor is triggered, and water, using a pump, makes up for the lack of fluid in the soil. It remains only to fill the tank from time to time.

Such a modern system is very convenient and simply necessary for people who often go on business trips or simply forget to water. Plants are especially sensitive to lack of moisture.

The shape and size of pots are round (most), triangular, square, rectangular, etc., large, medium and small.

Large flower pots – used for growing tall, with a massive root system or bushy plants and flowers. These are mainly floor or street type products, of various shapes and colors.
