Types of scindapsus and their photos

The genus Scindapsus now unites about 15 species of vines common in the tropical regions of Asia and Malaysia, and about 25 species are assigned to the genus Epipremnum. In indoor floriculture, painted scindapsus and golden epipremnum are used. These types of scindapsus are the most common.

Scindapsus painted

Scindapsus pictus is a liana with an angular warty stem and large (up to 15 cm long), dark green ovoid leaves with silvery spots, sitting on short petioles. In cultivation, the most common variety is ‘Exotica’, whose leaves are covered with broad and blurred silvery spots and strokes.

Epipremnum golden

Epipremnum golden (Epipremnum aureus) is a climbing profusely branching liana with leathery, whole or pinnately dissected, variously colored leaves on long petioles.

The most common varieties of golden epipremnum:

“Golden Pothos” – with brightly colored greenish-yellow leaves;

‘Marble Queen’ – with silvery white leaves covered with green strokes.

Care for scindapsus at home

Consider in general terms the care of scindapsus at home. It is the same as the rules of epiprenum agricultural technology. Both cultures are heat-loving and shade-tolerant, but with bright diffused lighting, the pattern on the leaves is more juicy. Water moderately in summer, using only soft settled water. Reduce watering in winter. The leaves should be periodically sprayed and washed with warm water to clear the accumulated dust. Top dressing is carried out during the period of active growth once every 2 weeks. Transplanted in the spring every two years. Overgrown plants are pruned, which also contributes to increased branching. Both species reproduce well by cuttings throughout the year.

Both scindapsus and epipremnum are used for vertical gardening. They look especially impressive in combination with a mossy trunk or on a trellis.

Epipremnum, which is widespread in room culture, is golden and can currently be found on sale under the old name.
