Planting bulbs

To grow an oriental lily flower at home, use wooden, ceramic or plastic pots. The diameter of the container for this crop should correspond to the size of the bulbs. It should not be tight and wide. The depth of the pot will also depend on the height of the plant.

For breeding this crop, a soil composition of turf and humus is suitable. Components are taken in equal volumes. You can also use ready-made substrate for lilies.

Before planting, the bulbs are kept in a weak solution of manganese for two hours, after which they are placed in a growth-stimulating solution for 12 hours. Planting bulbs in a pot is recommended in mid-March – early April.

Before planting, a drainage layer is laid at the bottom of the pot, then covered with ¼ of the substrate. The bulbs are placed in the soil with the bottom down, the soil is topped up, leaving about 6 cm to the edge, its surface is compacted, and watering is carried out. Containers with bulbs are transferred to a room with a temperature of 12 – 15 degrees, where they are kept until sprouts appear.

Care

  • Lighting. Oriental lily grown in a pot feels good in shade and partial shade, and direct sunlight burns delicate petals, so placing the plant on south-facing windows is not recommended.
  • Air temperature. The flower feels comfortable at an air temperature of 18 – 22 degrees. It can successfully grow and bloom even at higher temperatures, provided that frequent ventilation is carried out in the room. In the summer months, the lily should be kept on the balcony or in the garden under a canopy. The plant must get used to the fresh air. To do this, he is kept outside for 30 minutes at first, in the following days the time of stay is increased. On cool days they bring it into the house. The heat-loving plant does not tolerate cold, so you should not keep it on the windowsill in winter. It is better to move to another place in the apartment.
  • Watering. Oriental lily is a moisture-loving flower, but prefers moderate watering. It is necessary to carry out water procedures after the top layer of the earth dries sufficiently after the previous watering. The plant responds well to spraying. Also periodically wipe the leaves with a damp cloth. This procedure will have a beneficial effect on the flower.
  • Topdressing. Fertilizer is applied 3 times during the growing season, using mineral compositions for flowering plants. If the flower develops slowly, it is recommended to spray it with a solution that stimulates growth. This will help accelerate growth and lay flower buds.

Carrying out work after flowering

After the plant has faded, change its care. Watering is gradually reduced, performing this procedure no more than 1 time per week. The aerial part is not cut off in order for valuable substances to reach the bulbs. The stems are cut off after the leaves turn yellow and dry.

After removing the aerial part, watering is completely stopped. A couple of weeks later, the bulbs are dug up. The babies are planted in separate pots with a fresh substrate for growing.

Adult large bulbs are cleaned from the ground, the stem is shortened to 6 – 7 cm. Then they are immersed in a weak solution of manganese for half an hour, after the specified time they are removed, dried and placed in a container with slightly moistened moss. Stored in a cold place until spring.

Why is it not blooming

It happens that a lily grown indoors does not bloom. The lack of flowering can be caused by various reasons, most often associated with improper care. The most common of these is too spacious a pot. If the flower does not form buds for a long time, it is recommended to transplant it into a tighter container.

Also, the lack of flowering may be the result of rare watering. In this case, you will need to pay more attention to water procedures and observe the plant. It should start blooming soon.

With sudden changes in temperature, exposure to drafts, lack of a dormant period, lack of fertilizers in the soil, the oriental lily stops blooming. It is necessary to eliminate the listed reasons, and most likely, the long-awaited buds will appear.

If the planting of oriental lily bulbs and further care of the plant is carried out correctly and regularly, the grower will be able to get a profusely flowering plant with luxurious buds.
