This is a valuable annual plant , distinguished by the height of the bush, the shape and color of the flower, long and abundant flowering, ease of culture.

In ornamental horticulture, varieties derived from two Californian species are common: pleasant godetia and Whitney godetia. The bush is erect, high (up to 60 cm) or low (20-40 cm). In low varieties, semi-recumbent stems are found. The leaves are alternate, entire, broadly lanceolate, small (5-6 cm).

The flowers of the godetia are of the correct form, terry or simple, of various colors: white, pink, salmon-pink, lilac, carmine, red. The calyx is five-toothed, narrow-funnel-shaped, its teeth are bent down.

The seeds are small, in a cylindrical four-winged box, have an irregular shape with a rough surface, grayish-brown in color.

Plants of this culture are photophilous, cold-resistant, prefer loamy fertilized soils, on light soils they often suffer from dryness. Planting and caring for Godetia in the open field begins in April. Flowering occurs 80-90 days after sowing and continues until frost.

This flower belongs to self-pollinating plants. When growing Godetia from seeds in close proximity to each other, varietal purity is maintained.
