Plant type: semi-shrub.

Description: These are evergreen flowers that bloom in winter. They reach a height of about 60 cm. Different cultivars can vary considerably, and the foliage, for example, of each species comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. Against the background of dark, reddish foliage, pink flowers look very impressive and will decorate any garden. Looks great when grown in borders.

  • Origin: Mexico and Central America.
  • Care: no problem.
  • Growing environment: greenhouse, room conditions or garden.
  • Reproduction: carried out by dividing or planting seeds.

Flowering: Centradenia is characterized by very beautiful showy flowers that appear in clusters at the top of the stems. The color of the flowers is pink-red. When cut, flowers do not lose their appearance for a long time.

Foliage: The branches of the plant are covered with long, pointed leaves that have a red tint on the underside.

Lighting: partial shade. The sun’s rays illuminating the plant should be indirect. Full sunlight will be too intense for this flower.

Temperature regime: in the greenhouse in winter, the temperature should be at least 12 degrees.

Soil type: Centradenia flower grows well in the following soil composition: one part loam, two parts leafy humus or peat moss and some sand.

Watering: The soil should always be moist. You can use rainwater, but be careful as it may contain harmful acids.

Fertilization: Regular fertilization will encourage the plant to grow faster and flowers will appear more frequently. Manure is the best fertilizer for centradenia.

Planting: If you are going to plant centerplant cuttings, but first prepare the garden soil and moisten it. Rooted or rootless cuttings are placed in moist soil. The soil must be mulched, then it will always be wet and cool. Water the plants regularly for several weeks until the cuttings are rooted.

As the flowers wither, it is fairly easy to collect the seeds. When planting seeds, choose a suitable location and scatter the seeds on the surface of the soil. Then lightly work the soil with a rake so that the seeds are in close contact with the soil. In this case, it is also desirable to mulch the soil in order to reduce its compaction under the influence of rain and sun. Seeds need to be watered little by little, but often, until they germinate. When the seeds germinate, gradually reduce the frequency of watering, but increase its rate.

Application: centradenia – annual flowers are sometimes grown in hanging baskets. To do this, you need to fill the basket with good soil and leave a little space near the surface so that it is easier to water the plant later. Make holes in the soil and plant new flowers. Be sure to straighten the roots if they are tangled. When growing a plant, it may hang outside the rim of the pot.

Additionally: from time to time, the central plant needs to be transplanted. Transplantation should be carried out when there are too many roots, and they occupy the entire pot, snugly adjacent to each other. During transplantation, old, wilted and diseased or pest-affected leaves and stems should be removed. Carefully take the flower from the container and transplant into another, larger pot. Apply a small amount of fertilizer. Mulch the soil and water.

Centradenia can also be grown indoors. Home centradenia is very popular with lovers of indoor plants.
